Top 5 Time-Saving Kitchen Items

I hate cooking; we all know this. I don’t want to spend a second more in the kitchen than I have to, so I rely on some items that help save me time and energy, and I hope it helps you, too! Knife Sharpener. We got amazing Wusthof knives at our wedding, and I hadn’t sharpened them EVER, until last year, and we’ve been married 10 years. I know, I know; soo bad. Every cookbook will tell you that dull knives are an absolute no-no in the kitchen, but I just didn’t ever remember to take them to a professional sharpener, and this does the trick! My knives cut like they are brand new, and it’s super easy to use. I actually wrote the company telling them how much I love it and they gave me a promo code that I used to buy one for my mom. They have amazing customer service!

Brita Water Filter. Our fridge does not have a water dispenser, and I drink a TON of water. We used to have a Brita pitcher, but I would find myself constantly refilling it and it was driving me insane! This has an 18-cup capacity. We use our old Brita pitcher without the filter to fill up with water from the sink and pour into this countertop dispenser. It also has a slim design, and fits easily in the fridge, but we like room temp water for drinking.

Pyrex measuring cup. These come in a variety of sizes, but I use the 2-cup version. It’s great for melting butter in the microwave, mixing bouillon with hot water for all my instant pot recipes, and super handy as a little “trash can” while I’m prepping ingredients. I also use this to mix all my marinades and sauces. The Kitchen Aid hand mixer I talk about below actually fits in the 2-cup Pyrex cup!!

Zojirushi Water Kettle. Okay, this one is a bit of a luxury, but we love hot water. It came from living in China and being around 1 billion people who think cold foods are bad for your stomach. We started believing it, too, and got this water kettle as a gift. Even in Hawaii, because of the breezes, it gets cold in winter (I promise!), and a cup of hot water is so comforting in your hands and down your throat. Of course it’s amazing for tea drinkers because it’s always the perfect temp, and I use it to heat up my kids’ thermoses in the morning before I fill it with a hot lunch (keeps it warmer, longer), and it’s perfect for mixing my bouillon paste which requires hot water to dissolve.

KitchenAid Hand Mixer. I’ll be honest – I don’t know if I would have bought this at first if it didn’t come in such pretty colors! Of course, I thought I needed the stand mixer, but I have been so happy with the hand mixer because it doesn’t take up much space. I use this all the time when cooking. It SHREDS CHICKEN BREAST!!! Did you hear me?! I feel like I need to shout that one from the rooftop. Poach chicken breasts in the instant pot, put WARM chicken in a separate bowl, and shred with this hand mixer, and you’re set for the week – salad, soup, sandwiches, quesadillas, enchiladas, casseroles, and the list goes on! I also use the hand mixer for baking of course, and it also makes the BEST MASHED POTATOES. It has a cool little button that lets you eject the whisks, and it’s so handy; makes cleanup easier by not having to fuss with pulling the whisks out. And stuff falls right off the whisks and doesn’t stick as much as other ones I’ve tried. Give them a quick shake in some water and they’re clean! Even with brownie mix!

Alright, now you know the things I can’t live without in the kitchen. Let me know in the comments if I’m missing anything on the list, or if there is anything you wish would save you time, maybe I can help! Obsessive researching is one of my favorite things to do 🙂
